So much cooler online?

So once again it is Wednesday. No wantlist today though. Instead I have finally gotten my wantlists put online. Thus card number 750 of the 1998 Pacific Online set.

You can see the Rangers wantlists here, the Senators wantlists here and the tradelist here. Still have a little updating to do on the tradelist but it's mostly there. Not sure if being online makes the lists any cooler but they are more available. Let me know if you see anything you want or can send my way.

Since there will be no more wantlist posts, I am looking for ideas for Wednesdays. If anyone has something they would like to see as a regular feature please let me know. If it catches my fancy I might give it a shot. If I don't get any ideas you'll just have to suffer through whatever I can come up with.

Wantlist - 1994 Pacific.

1994 was before Pacific had completely gone off the deep end with inserts, strange designs, and a multitude of sets. In fact the design, as shown here by Butch Davis on card number 613, was rather simple. The backs of the cards were in both English and Spanish. So at last we come to the end of the line for Upper Deck. At least it seems like the end of the line. The 2010 Upper Deck set was unlicensed by Major League Baseball and that resulted in a lawsuit. That will probably result in Upper Deck's permanent absence from the baseball card market. Jason Jennings is shown here on card number 506 as an example of what the set looks like. Wantlist - 2006 Upper Deck.

So the Rangers won today and avoided getting swept at home by the last place Mariners. Once again the game ended with Nelson Cruz at the plate - this time on a wild pitch rather than a long blast. On a concerning note, David Murphy apparently strained his left groin muscle in the second inning. Hopefully it isn't a bad strain and he'll be back before the playoffs commence.

Michael Young went 2-for-5 in the game today with an RBI and a double. Glad to see that. Here he appears on card number 465 of the 2006 Upper Deck set as an example of what the set looks like. Wantlist - 2005 Upper Deck.

Sorry about the lack of a post yesterday. We had some storms through early in the day and by the time I was ready to post the Internet was down. Never did come back up before I had to head off to bed.

Today's wantlist consists of the two cards I need to complete the 2005 Upper Deck team set. To give an example of what the set looks like I am posting the team leaders card, number 289 in the set. This card really produces mixed emotions. I would have liked to see Hank Blalock's rebound bid with the Devil Rays succeed. Hank's a class act and it was sad to see him hurt and leaving Texas like he did. My thoughts on Money Man Teixeira have been pretty well documented previously and are not as charitable as those concerning Blalock. Ok, on to the wantlist, here is what I am looking for today:

Wantlist - 2004 Upper Deck.

So Michael Young has had a great past couple of days. Yesterday he went 3-for-5 at the plate in the Rangers' 11-4 trouncing of the Tigers. The win pushed Texas closer to clinching a postseason slot. Young also picked up three RBI in the victory.

Today Michael was elected to the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame. Chris Carpenter was also elected. Not bad company. The induction is sometime in November.

Rick Helling puts in an appearance on card number 155 of the set to give an example of what the set design looks like. This was one of Upper Deck's designs that I could take or leave.

Well, the Devil Rays trounced the Rangers last night 10-1. Ugly game and one that Texas really needed to win. Derek Holland is on the hill tonight and it would be nice to see him shut Tampa Bay down.

Today's wantlist is what is left for me to finish up my 2001 Upper Deck team set. Even though Gabe Kapler is currently on the Disabled List for Tampa Bay he is still on the team so I'll show him on card number 335 of the 2001 Upper Deck set. Here's what I need to complete this team set:

Upper Deck delivered another unimpressive design in 2000. The design is showcased by Justin Thompson on card number 513 in the set. At least they had done away with the bad border idea from the 1999 set. I am still looking for four cards to complete this team set. Here is what I need:

Wantlist - 1999 Upper Deck.

Next up on the wantlist rotation is 1999 Upper Deck. Today we see Esteban Loaiza on card number 509 as an example of the set. In my mind 1999 was one of Upper Deck's poorer designs. Too much foil and the border seems to crowd the picture. I would like to complete the team set though. Here's what I still need to get it all put together:

With the annual collection contests coming up on The Bench I am trying to get a few more team sets knocked out to polish up the Rangers collection some. As such, no trade is too small.

Wantlist - 1997 Upper Deck.

So I have the completed 1996 Upper Deck set. That brings us up to the 1997 Upper Deck set. This set is actually probably in my top 10 or 15 favorite sets list. The design as a whole really doesn't stand out but I do like the captions. As you can see on card number 506 of the set even a photo that doesn't match the player's listed position is explained. It's kind of hard to read but right under Mickey's left foot is a caption that reads, "Taking a rare turn at first base 6-9-96." Knowing when and where a photo was taken and what the player was doing is pretty cool and I wish the idea had taken with some of the other card companies and that Upper Deck had continued it.

Wantlist - 1995 Upper Deck.

1995 marked the first year of no borders for Upper Deck. I actually like this set pretty well. The photography is generally good and the foil isn't overdone. Also, the bronze foil looks nicer than silver in my view.
