Gearing up heading into the stretch.

It's late. It's been a busy day so this post is going to be short.

Today Texas traded for Jorge Cantu. In return the Rangers sent minor league pitchers Evan Reed and Omar Poveda to the Marlins.

Cantu should serve as a right-handed backup corner infielder down the stretch. Reed is a Single A relief pitcher. Poveda, shown here on an autographed version of his 2008 Donruss Threads card, is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is out for the season. In addition to Cantu the Rangers also got some much needed cash.

Strange to see Texas as a buyer going up against the trade deadline. All too often they are either holding or selling.
